HISTORY Emmet Square is a fitting legacy to an era of great prosperity for the town of Clonakilty at the turn of the 19th Century. With the linen industry thriving, Deasy’s Brewery expanding, the many mills in full flow and the expansion of the quays, Shannon Square, as it was then known, was built to accommodate the merchants of the town at the behest of the Earl of Shannon. Numbers 18 and 19 were likely built as a pair by Commander John Townsend sometime after he settled in Clonakilty following his retirement from the Navy in c.1801. He resided at 18 Emmet Square until his death in 1849. John Townsend was a prominent figure in the early decades of the 19th century being Town Recorder, second in command to the Sovereign of the Borough.

LOCATION The location and convenience of Emmet Square is superb. Clonakilty is a popular residential, market and award-winning tourist town that attracts families interested in taking advantage of the fine facilities and amenities including excellent Schools, Shops, Sports and Recreation. The property is convenient to Inchydoney Beach and the many coastal offerings throughout West Cork. Clonakilty is 50 kilometres south west of Cork City and Airport.
