Caroline Bowles is an Irish visual artist working in the areas of drawing and painting. “As a movement painter, I create spaces for the figure in movement to emerge out of the blank canvas in a free flowing, unimpeded stream. My paintings speak about the beauty and fragility of the human frame which arise like mountain and valley scapes, rhythmic, gestural and at times, humorous. Through painting and drawing I explore visual expressions of the beauty of enacted truth in gesture, movement and the passage of time. Painting and drawing is an embodied practice for me and is informed by over twenty years of meditation and reflection in the Vietnamese Zen Tradition. “I am a graduate of the Crawford College of Art and Design with a B.A. (Honours) in Fine Art. I also have a Licentiate in Chinese Medicine, completing my studies in Dublin and Nanjing, China. My background as a musician is a vital inspiration and stimulus in my art making. I have received purchase awards from PM Group, Munster Technological University, Sample-Studios Graduate Associate Member Award (2023), Backwater Artists Network Award (2023) and Waterford City and County Council Bursary (2023). I am a studio artist in Greywood Arts and Sample-Studios, Cork. I am also a member of Visual Artists Ireland and the Mór Artists Collective. My work is held in public and private collections in Ireland and Germany.” Past Exhibitions include The Crawford Art Gallery as part of the Fine Art Degree, Art/Context project (2021). The Glucksman Gallery, Femfest Exhibition, Cork (2022). Lavit Quay Members Exhibition, Cork (2023). Truth in Gesture, Crawford College of Art & Design, Cork (2023). Sample-Studio Summer Members Exhibition, Lord Mayors Pavilion (2023). Momentum, James Barry Exhibition Center, Cork (2023). Convergence, Gallery of Modern Art, Waterford (2024).
